Newsletter: An Early August Update

Hi everyone!
This is Chris. Writing this email, not the beautiful little girl featured in the photo above (that would be our adorable daughter, Abbie). It’s been ages since I’ve actually written one of these newsletters, but hopefully it’s like riding a bike. Amanda’s at home relaxing and taking it easy (I know you’re reading this and I’m just kidding, sweetheart! I love you!), so I’m back in the newsletter capacity temporarily.

As always this time of year, we have a lot going on.

U-PICK INFORMATION

Cut-your-own sunflowers are now available. The field is open today until 1pm, and tomorrow 11am-2pm. Please check our What’s Ripe page for dates this coming week. As every business seems to be these days, we’re trying to work around having limited staff.

The sunflowers are beautiful right now. And this year we planted a bunch of additional flowers and filler to really make your arrangements stand out. We have snapdragons, celosia, rudbeckia, zinnias, and a lot more in bloom right now! You can mix any of them into your sunflowers for the same price. There is one row of perennials that I’m trying to get established for the future, that I’m asking people not to cut this year. I have a few signs on it. But other than that, everything in the flower patch is fair game!

If you haven’t cut flowers with us before, you head out to the u-pick shed and purchase either a jar for $10 or a large metal vase for $25. You’re provided a pair of scissors. Then you just head out and fill your container. We just ask that you drop the scissors back off afterwards. If you have a metal vase from a previous visit here, re-use it, and you’ll save $5.

Keep reading for some more highlights.

Have a wonderful day!

Introducing…Oliver

Amanda had our baby, who we have named Oliver. We are so blessed. Both Mom and baby are doing great. Abbie is adjusting well to her new baby brother. Cooper is absolutely obsessed with this new addition. The cats couldn’t care less.

From a business perspective, Amanda is taking some much-needed time off, so I apologize for the longer than normal time responding to messages, etc. Some (hopefully mostly) minor things are definitely falling through the cracks a little right now, as I’m now trying to handle a lot of her responsibilities in addition to my own. I sincerely apologize for this. We’re doing our best.

Now Hiring

We need help! If you know anyone who wants a part time or full time job this fall season, direct them to our website under Employment. A lot of our young staff is returning to school and we need help picking apples, harvesting vegetables, and various other jobs around the orchard. We also need retail help on the weekends for the fall, as well as possibly a little extra help in the bakery. Please visit our website to apply!

New Treats!

We’ve been working hard in the kitchen coming up with fun new from-scratch treats! We have a changing selection of delicious brownies, including these Monster Brownies. Additional flavors right now include Sea Salt Caramel and Peanut Buttercream.

We also started baking muffins, using our fruit, of course! My favorite at the moment is Peach. They’re pretty outstanding, if I do say so myself. And we can’t seem to keep our new scones in stock!

What’s available any particular day may change, but we’ll always have an expanded selection of delicious homemade treats beyond what you’re probably used to from us. And I’ve got more delicious-ness in the works!

Michigan Tart Cherries

The Michigan tart cherries are in. If you placed an order with us, please come pick them up as soon as you’re able to. If you didn’t place an order, unfortunately, you’re probably out of luck for this year…we ordered extra, but already have a large waiting list for them.
