Flavor: Mild tartness
Approximate Ripening: Early August
Uses: Eating, pies and baking, saucing
Trivia: Discovered in Roger, Ohio by Dan Simmons, Sr. & Jr. of Peace Valley Orchards in 1997; patented in 2006
Notes: If you like the flavor of McIntosh but wished it came in a crisper form, look no further than Dandee Red. It has that same pleasant McIntosh mild tartness in a crunchy, attractive package: skin blushed claret (a purplish red), flesh dazzlingly white. A surprisingly good keeper for such an early apple.
