We bring in two loads of tart cherries from Michigan every July. They are absolutely perfect for cooking, baking, and jam! They come pitted and in their own juice, with no sugar or additives, and are ready to cook with. They come in 10-lb. or 30-lb. buckets, and this year’s prices are $21.50 and $49.50, respectively (the same as last year). The dates to pick them up look to be July 14th or July 21st. We can hang on to them for a couple of days if you can’t get them on one of those exact dates, but only for a couple of days.
When purchased, since they don’t contain preservatives, you’ll want to divide them up and freeze any you won’t be using fairly soon. If you freeze them in a quantity that you commonly use, you can just thaw a bag any time of the year. Your bakery will taste just like you used fresh cherries.
