CrimsonCrisp

Crimson Crisp

Flavor: Crispy and sweet/spicy, with a tropical spike on the back end

Approximate Ripening: Early September

Uses: Eating

Trivia: Created in 1971 at the Rutgers Fruit Research and Development Center, CrimsonCrisp was first released to market in 2005.  It traces its lineage through such apples as Crandal, Golden Delicious, Rome, Jonathan, Melba, and Edgewood.

Notes: Here’s one for the Gala fans ready to graduate to a sweet apple with some complexity.  As the name implies, CrimsonCrisp is crisp.  What you may not be prepared for is the kick at the end of this otherwise sweet apple.  It has a spicy undertone with hints of melon and orange to it.
