Roxbury Russet

Roxbury Russet

Flavor: Mild tartness, with a little nuttiness

Approximate Ripening: Mid-late September

Uses: Eating, baking, juicing, hard cider

Trivia: Roxbury Russet is the oldest apple variety originating in North America, though the seedlings were probably brought over by early European settlers.

Notes: 400 years after kicking off the American apple scene, Roxbury Russet remains a delicious piece of our apple heritage.  It’s a softer apple, yet it packs a pleasing flavor that’s tart with a hint of Ashmead’s Kernal-like nuttiness.
