Crimson Topaz

Crimson Topaz apples on the table

Flavor: Bright, sharp, crispy tartness

Approximate Ripening: Late September

Uses: Eating

Trivia: Born in the Czech Republic as a cross between the Czech apples Vanda and Rubin, Crimson Topaz was introduced to the world market in the 1990s

Notes: This eastern European apple deserves your attention as one of the more flavorful apples around.  The bright flavor can almost be described as “crimson.”  The coarse yellow flesh conveys a mouth-clearing, bracingly sharp taste that explodes with color in your mouth.  A true delight of the fall season.
