Cameo

Cameo

Flavor: Sweet, aromatic, crisp

Approximate Ripening: Early-mid October

Uses: Eating, salads

Trivia: Cameo was discovered by the Caudle family in Dryden, WA in 1987.  Its origins are a mystery, but it may be a cross between a Red Delicious and a Golden Delicious since those apples were grown near where Cameo was found.

Notes: Cameo apples are sunny firehouse-red with yellow-green blush, and they have they oblong shape of a Red Delicious, which they may be related to.  If you like Red Delicious-style sweetness, you’ll find that Cameo adds an aromatic quality that sets it apart from its maybe-parent.  Firm and crisp, it’s a great choice for sweet apple lovers.
