Pink Pearl

Pink Pearl

Flavor: Moderate tartness

Approximate Ripening: Early September

Uses: Salads, baking, saucing, eating

Trivia: In 1944, Albert Etter of northern California took a seedling of a Turkish apple known as Surprise and used it to develop Pink Pearl, which inherited Surprise’s red flesh.

Notes: There might not be a more lovely-on-the-inside apple than Pink Pearl.  Slice open the pearly yellow skin and discover the glorious strawberry-hued flesh waiting within.  Slice it up and sprinkle it over a salad for a dash of color and a kick of tart flavor.  Or try saucing it for some truly delicious and distinctively dyed applesauce!
